If you can run six miles on a summer day, then you, my friend, are a lethal weapon in the animal kingdom — Christopher McDougall (via whatyouhaveinside)

had a crazy 30 mile trail “marathon” on saturday w/ TGS.
so fun. she’s such a great person to run with. she totally helped keep my head on straight when all i wanted to do was walk for a little while, and she was so positive even when things were not 100% working out for her physically. so much fun and so supportive. it was rad.
the race itself was solid.
30 miles. started w/ two steep climbs and downhills over the first couple of miles then a really beautiful zig-zag along a creek. then into the woods and the meat of the race. some seriously muddy fire roads, some really interesting birch and sand areas, some open fields, one really steady climb or two in the middle (there was a fire road one that i remember particularly to seem never ending!!) and then the unrelenting climbs at the end as we came back to the start finish.
i made some time to pick some blueberries off the trail which was fucking seriously cool and the bugs, which was what everyone was talking about pre-race, never really materialized as a problem. it was super fun, all in all. i took a stupid fall in the early stages of the race and my hand was pretty sore for a day or so, but it’s fine, now.
my favorite parts were the stretches along the creek, the blueberries, the ridiculous climbs at the very end, and then finally sitting down after 6 1/2 hours of running.
feet felt pretty good. legs were pretty tired. waking up at 345 to go to NH to go run kind of sucks, to be honest, but it was a great day w./ even better company.
running is fun. but it’s way more fun w/ a terrific friend.

We just ran 30 miles as a training run. THIRTY. With 4,100ft. gained in elevation over the course. It wasn’t easy and I couldn’t have done it without this guy (thanks for being the only one to consistently run ridiculous mileage with me!). You know I’ll bombard you with pictures later but right now I’m going to hang around feeling like a badass and eating everything. I feel amazing!
